Some Dobson Houses Already Sold
(New Zealand Press Association) GREYMOUTH, August 21. Some employees of the Dobson mine had already found alternative work and reasonably good and secured prices for their houses, the District Commissioner of Works (Mr D. B. Dallas) said today.
“People are selling their homes and are doing not so badly as far as price is concerned.
“They are not getting by any means the full value and in some cases the prices are below Government valuation, but it is not as bad as it could be,” said Mr Dallas. Some people had left the district between midJuly and mid-August. “An interesting thing is that they are moving to all parts of the country—other parts of the West Coast and as far afield as Te Aroha,” said Mr Dallas.
The encouraging thing about the situation was that people were making an effort for themselves, he said. Mr Dallas will become Commissioner for the West Coast on September 30.
