Publicity For N.Z. Expo Pavilion
(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, August 21
Publicity in Japan for New Zealand’s participation in Expo 70 at Osaka was given a boost when the recent announcement of the design of the New Zealand pavilion gained wide press coverage, the Minister of Overseas Trade (Mr Marshall) said today.
Mr Marshall said that the initial announcement of New Zealand's plans would be followed up at an exhibition in the large Kintetsu department store in Osaka. It would open tomorrow for six days. The exhibition would be opened by Prince Takamatsu, brother of the Emperor. It was assured of wide public attention in the Osaka area. A section of the exhibition, which was being promoted by an Osaka evening newspaper, would be devoted to models of foreign pavilions at Expo 70. Only a few of the 40 countries which had so far agreed to take part had announced their designs and only five, including New Zealand, would have models in the exhibition.
Mr Marshall said the model of the New Zealand pavilion which had been sent to Osaka would show that this country’s planning for the Expo was well advanced in comparison with that of many other countries.
Mr Marshall said Japanese interest in New Zealand’s participation would be sustained by the visit to Japan next month of the Minister of Finance (Mr Muldoon), who was a member of the New Zealand Commission for Expo 70.
