Pills Probably Caused Death

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) WARRINGTON, August 21. Birth-control pills probably caused the death of a 23-year-old mother, a pathologist told a coroner’s court in Warrington, Lancashire, today. The woman, Mrs Sandra Minton, died In hospital from cerebral venous thrombosis.

The pathologist (Dr Ronald Mossman) said: “It has now been established that in a minority of cases there is a link between the use of contraceptive pills and thrombosis of this sort.

“It is impossible to say that death was undoubtedly due to taking the pill, but I think there is a strong balance of probability that the pill was to blame, in view of the fact that the incidence of this sort of thing is higher in women who take the pill than in those who do not.”
