Canterbury Unbeaten

The two Canterbury teams, A and B, North Otago and Otago were the only unbeaten sides after the first day of the South Island under-12 soccer tournament at Spreydon Domain yesterday. Because of the record entry, the competition has been divided into two sections, the winner of each to meet in the tournament final tomorrow afternoon. Yesterday's results were:— Section 1: South Canterbury 3. West Coast 0: Otago 4, Marlborough 0; Otago 2, South Canterbury 0; North Otago 3, Marlborough 0. Section 2: Canterbury A 4, Nelson 0; Southland 2, South Otago 1; Nelson 5, Southland 1; Canterbury B 9, South Otago 0.

Fast Swim.—A West German swimmer, H. Fassnacht, took 6sec oil the European 1500 metres freestyle record with a time of 16min 46.75ec in a match against Sweden. His time was the fourth fastest in the world this year.
