Table Tennis To Mrs May

Mrs T. May (Canterbury) enhanced her prospects of a successful New Zealand table tennis championship when she beat the fourth seed for the national women’s singles Miss J. E. Brown (Hutt Valley), to win the Wellington open title on Saturday. Mrs May won 11-21, 21-19. 12-21, 21-16, 22-20.

Miss Brown and Mrs V. E. Muirhead (Hutt Valley) beat Mrs May and Miss S. Shirriffs (Manawatu), 21-18, 21-19, 23-21, in the final of the women’s doubles, and Mrs May and M. W. Borlase (Wellington), who are seeded eighth in the mixed doubles for the national championships, were beaten in the first round at Wellington.

Borlase defeated B. T. Cross (Hutt Valley) 21-15, 17-21, 21-15, 21-8, to win the men’s singles. H. J. Waterhouse (Wellington) was forced to withdraw from the championships suffering from influenza.
