DIABETIC CHILDREN

Holiday Camp At Wainui Twenty diabetic children began a week’s holiday on Saturday at a special holiday camp at Wainui. on Banks Peninsula. “It is the first time a cantp of this kind has been run in New Zealand,” said Mr E. Blain, president of the Christchurch Diabetes Society, which has arranged the camp. He said the children attending ranged in age from eight to 15. Some came from Wellington and Dunedin. Mr Blain said children suffering from diabetes did not usually get an opportunity for a holiday away from home and the camp would allow them to do this, as well as give parents a rest from looking after them. The holiday would also give the children confidence in looking after themselves, although there would be a doctor, a nurse, and special dietitian at the camp, as well as Y.M.C.A. youth leaders.
