CHURCH BAY HOMES

Fire-fighting Access

The Diamond Harbour Fire Brigade was concerned at the lack of a reasonable watersupply at Church Bay. because homes there ran a bad fire risk in summer, said the chairman (Mr E. R. Radcliffe) at a meeting of the Mount Herbert County Council.

The brigade, he said, had asked if a paper road could be formed so that a fire unit could get to the Church Bay wharf, so as to be able to pump sea water: This would enable the whole bay to be covered. The council considered an estimate of $458 to form 15 chains of track, Mr Radcliffe saying that Mr E. O. Sinclair had offered $5O towards the cost.

Cr J. H. Mathias said there was no money to spare on the estimates, and at his suggestion, a decision was deferred until the half-yearly financial review.
