Fewer Flats And Houses

Fewer building permits for new houses and flats were issued in New Zealand in June this year than in June 1967. but there was an increase in the number and value of permits issued for other new buildings, says the Govern ment Statistician (Mr J. V. T Baker). Altogether the permits covered work worth $26.2 million. compared with a figure of $25.9 million in June last year. But for the first half of the year total value of all permits was down $9.6 million to $161.3 million.

The number of permits for new houses and flats issued this June was 1597 (value $l2 million) compared with 1712 permits (value $13.1 million) in June last year. Permits for alterations were down from 3175 to 2902, although the value remained at $2.1 million, while permits for other new buildings were up from 95 to 109, with the value up from $4.1 million to $5.3 million.
