AIRCRAFT LEFT ON GLACIER
(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, August 16.
One of two Mount Cook Air Services Cessna 185 ski-equipped aircraft, snow-bound
on the Murchison Glacier for the last three
days, will be left there until conditions become suitable for flying the machine out.
The other aircraft has been dismantled into manageable parts, and flown out by a Bell helicopter, the last load coming out this evening. The pilot of the dismantled plane was Mr S. F. Oliver, of Dunedin. He and his observer, Mr K. Pain, who is employed bv the Mount Cook National Park Board, were flown from the Murchison Hut by helicopter on Thursday. The aircraft which is still
on the glacier was piloted by : the Mount Cook Air Services i chief pilot, Mr M. L. Buckl land, and carried four North Island skier-climbers who are I still in the area. No information is available , at present regarding the acciI dent to Mr Oliver’s aircraft, I which on Wednesday was i dropping supplies and equip- ’ \ ment to assist the other i Cessna when it landed further I up the Murchison Glacier.
