Gay Marilyn Selected In Matamata Sprint

"The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. With a view to Ellerslie next Wednesday, the open sprinters might be worth most attention at the Matamata Racing Club’s meeting today. Fair Law, Gay Marilyn and Boston Boy are among the Ellerslie acceptors which will be competing and each promises to go well.

Gay Marilyn, Fair Law and Boston Boy are expected to be right in the finish of the second leg of the T.A.B. double, the Stewards’ Handicap. Gay Marilyn is in the big mile, the August Handicap, at Ellerslie and the other two are in the Broadway Handicap.

G»y Marilyn will revert to a sprint at Matamata after a failure last time over 10 furlongs at Te Awamutu. Her form until Te Awamutu was excellent and brought a run of wins and minor placings over the shorter courses.

Fair Law is a good four-year-old which seems right on the verge of a return to his best form. Boston Boy Is a last-start winner of an open sprint at Pukekohe and he looks to have come on well in the meantime. Weights Lower With the scale of weights lower, Gay Marilyn has 81b less in the August Handicap than the amount she will be carrying today, and. Fair Law and Boston Boy, in the Stewards’ Handicap have just about their Ellerslie Handicaps. A win today would | almost certainly bring a penalty for Ellerslie: probably 41b or 51b, depending on the merit of the performance. Claroch, which is also in the Stewards’ Handicap, Tina, El Cid, Celeus, Choucuana and De Julio are others at Matamata which have engagements at Ellerslie. Clarendon, Inside Story and Foxonewa seem the best prospects for the Johnston Memorial. Each is a recent winner. Clarendon failed last time but before that scored decisively over 11 furlongs at the Auckland Racing Club's McGregor Grant meeting. He is not among the acceptors for next Wednesday. The forecast is for showers and the track today will be soft. Selection*:— U «.m.—Tul Hurdles: Playday, Damar, Empire Lad. 11.40 a.m.—County Handl-
