Snell Takes Issue

(Ti.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The former Olympic champion. P. G. Snell, said yesterday it was essential to have an athletic coach with the New Zealand Olympic team in Mexico. He was commenting on a recent decision of the Amateur Athletic Association not to send a coach with the eight athletes. “An athlete may be carrying out a training programme set by his coach in New Zealand but he needs the guidance and support of an on-the-spot coach.” Snell said. “A manager without coaching experience is unable to get close enough to the athletes to be of any practical use in assisting them with their problems.

“I believe it is essential to send a coach with a team whenever possible.
