“London Air Clearer”
Courses being run in Britain for commercial officers of British High Commissions were improving efficiency, said the commercial officer of the Christchurch office (Mr K. W. Adams). Mr Adams has returned from a course designed to improve liaison between trade posts overseas and the Board of Trade, London, export service branch. The most impressive change he noticed since he was in London in the Second World War was how much clearer the air was.
This, he said, could be attributed to the “smokeless zone” where solid-fuel tires had been eliminated.
While in Britain, Mr Adams worked at Barclay’s Bank, Lloyd’s Underwriters, shipping and forwarding firms, commercial and financial institutions, and the Underwriters’ Association.
He also spent three weeks visiting 25 firms between Leeds and the Isle of Wight.
