ELLESMERE GAMES
The defeats of Lincoln and Irwell enabled Southbridge to draw level with these teams in the Ellesmere Rugby subunion’s senior competition with only one match to play.
Two junior grades were completed on Saturday with Lincoln winning the fourth grade and Leeston the fifth grade. The successful teams returned outstanding defensive records: L**eston did not concede a point during the season and Lincoln conceded only three points. Results:
Senior.—A section: Burnham 11. Lincoln 6: Leeston 22. Dunsandel 5; Southbridge 8. Irwell 6 B section: United 23, Prebbleton 8; Darfield 14, Black Diamonds 3
Junior.—Kirwee 38. Waihora 5 Springston 65. Lincoln 3: Southbridge 18. Hororata 11: Peninsula 8. Leeston Combined 5.
Third Grade.—Lincoln 25. Waihora 3: Sheffield 14. Dun-sandel-Burnham 12: Kirwee beat Southbridge by default: Leeston beat Hororata by default.
Fourth Grade.—Peninsula 16. Waihora 3: Darfield 24 Dunsandel-Burnham 0: Lincoln beat Leeston Combined by default.
Fifth Grade.—Leeston 22. Waihora 0; Sheffield 5, Burnham Tigers 3: Burnham Lions 24. Black Diamonds 0; Southbridge 12. Darfield 9: Lincoln 6. Hororata 3: Irwell 14. Dunsandel 0: Peninsula beat Springfield by default.
Shield Support.— More than Marlborough Rugby supporters are planning to be at McLean Park. Napier, on August 24. to watch their team chai, lenge Hawke’s Bay for the Ranfurly Shield. It is Marlborough’s first challenge for the trophy for 40 years.
