COMPETITION KEEN
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 9. There was keen competition at today’s Auckland wool sale. The official report says a new wool-selling season started in Auckland with the winter sale.
Five catalogues contained the offering of 12,227 bales, which comprised 9302 bales of new season’s wool submitted by growers and 2925 bales from the Wool Commission stockpile. Crutchings comprised 45 per cent of the growers’ wool offered, early-shorn hogget 15 per cent, second shear 25 per cent; and there were the usual oddments. The stockpile offering was substantially second shear.
It was an average offering for a winter sale. While some attractive lines of early shorn and second shear were displayed, the bulk was only of average-to-good to average style. i Crutchings likewise were I generally of only average
style and inclined to be a little short in staple. The Continent and United States took the bulk of the offering. Local mills operated freely on crutchings and topped the bidding on wellpicked lines. Compared with the sale last Monday at Napier secondshear wools are quoted in sellers’ favour and crutchings very firm.
