Yachtsmen’s Loss
A United States ensign measuring 2ft by 3ft has been removed from the rigging of the American yacht Nexus at Lyttelton some time in the last 48 hours, according to Mr C. Harris, an industrial art teacher from Los Angeles. “I am sorry to lose it because it has a sentimental value and I can’t get another one in Christchurch apparently,” Mr Harris said yesterday. “I would like to finish my ocean cruising with the same ensign.” Accompanied by Mr B. Ross, a physical education and zoology teacher from Vancouver, Mr Harris is cruising the Pacific and the Nexus has been at Lyttelton since June. Mr Harris is working aboard the Nexus but Mr Ross is teaching science and mathematics at Mairehau High School, in Christchurch.
“We will continue our cruising along the coast, and then perhaps to Australia, but before we sail from Lyttelton in about three weeks, it would be comforting to have the ensign back,” Mr Harris said.
