A scholarship can usually be taken up at any time afterward which is normally conditional on enrolment for a course for the degree of Doctor of Philo* sophy. A scholarship is awarded initially for two years, subject to satisfactory progress, but normally will be extended for the whole period of the course, usually three years. The present basic value of a scholarship is $A2330 per annum. Married scholars with dependent children are granted additional allowances of $A775 per annum for the first child and a further 5A225 per annum for each other child. Medically qualified scholars receive a basic allowance of $A3360 per annum, but additional allowances are restricted to SAIOOO per annum. Fares to and from Canberra will be paid.
