Aviation Industry
Sir, —In your issue of July 18 the secretary of the Aviation Industry Association was quoted as saying, “The average age of half the industry’s aircraft fleets was 10 years, with a high proportion of them at 15 years.” One would gather from his figures that most aerial topdressing aircraft in the country were tottering on the verge of collapse. I would suggest that 64 per cent constructed or purchased in the last five years, 20 per cent between five and 10 years, 12 per cent between 10 and 15 years, and 4 per cent 15 years and over, were more realistic figures. A closer look at a few current fleets would show the numbers of modem aerial topdressing aircraft that are in the country.—Yours, etc., ■ C.W.T. July 20, 1968.
