Dangerous Corner To Be Compulsory Stop

Because of recent accidents at the junction of the Greendale and Bealey Roads, the Malvern County Council yesterday decided to change the “Give Way” signs on the Greendale Road to “Stop” signs. The engineer (Mr W. J. Bevis) said that consideration should be given to the removal of gorse hedges at the intersection, and to their replacement by wire fences. The council also agreed to have “Give Way” signs on Homebush Road at its intersection with Kimberley Road, Mr Bevis saying that gorse hedges, broom and trees blocked visibility here. too. A “Stop” sign was authorised for the Coalgate store corner. Revaluation.—lt was reported that the county revaluation had started.

Unemployed.—The clerk (Mr B. W. Perrin) was authorised to engage unemployed men for plantation pruning under the Government subsidy scheme. New Hotel.—Layout plans for the replacement of the Darfield Hotel by a new building were approved, subject to the provision of more offstreet parking space. Office Site.—A site on railway land opposite Mr J. Rich’s shop was proposed for offices to be built for the Department of Agriculture, but the council agreed that it did not want buildings on the land, and asked the Railways Department to reserve it for street widening and parking. Lake Lyndon.—On the recommendation of the finance committee, the council de-

clined to accept responsibility for the lake waters if Lake Lyndon is declared a domain, but agreed to act as a domain board for 11 acres of foreshore. Cr D. W. Mulholland said that lavatories were urgently needed.

Water Sports.—The appointment of Mr M. R. Murchison as honorary launch warden at Lake Georgina was notified by the Marine Department, and the council agreed to exempt the Lake Lyndon Water Ski Club from speed restrictions.
