LAKESIDE BUILDING

Councils Refuse Approach

None of the local bodies approached in an effort to control buildings near lakes and rivers had given representatives a hearing, Mr G. Mugford for a meeting of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society. The county councils in the Ellesmere district had been asked to receive delegates to discuss the issue of permits for buildings.

The councils approached had declined the request, said Mr Mugford. “All we are asking is they leave a section. If you build a hay bam they will be on your back quickly. They allow these shooters' shacks which are a blot on the landscape.” It was now clear that the society would have to approach the Marine Department, he said.
