Riccarton Trip For Kumai

(from Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON. Kumai has thrived since he returned to Wlngatul and is likely to race at the Grand National meeting. The Wlngatul trainer, H. A. Anderton, said at Trentham yesterday, that the Lincoln Steeplechase on the last day of the meeting would be the grey's mission. His programme will depend on his performance in the Jumpers’ Flat on the first day. Other events In which he has been entered are the Grand National Hurdles and Sydenham Hurdles. Anderton said he did not think Kumai would be conditioned for the Grand National Steeplechase, having been eased

up after his race In the Hastings Steeplechase, in which he finished well back.

Anderton believes that Kumai lost form on his North Island trip after winning the Peach Memorial Flat on the first day of the Waikato meeting because of a virus.

The big grey was treated by a course of penicillin. He was examined at Massey College, where a high heart count and blood test proved Satisfactory. If Kumai starts in the Grand National Hurdles, the mount will be offered to Anderton’s son, Brian, who was associated with the Kurdistan gelding in his two Parliamentary Handl, cap, three Winter Oats, the Winter Hurdles and Trentham Hurdlea wins at Trentham.
