Cricket Tour To Be Discussed

The New Zealand team’s tour of England next year will be a major item of discussion by the New Zealand Cricket Council’s board of control at its meeting in Christchurch this week-end.

The agenda for the meeting, which will start on Friday evening, provides discussion on the composition of the party, any preliminary matches, and the assembly and preparation of the party. A major talking point might again be the Auckland proposal for the 1965 tour that an assistant manager be sent, to act as coach. It is understood that Auckland still favours such an appointment and will again press for it. Another Auckland proposal —four-day Plunket Shield matches—ls on the agenda.

Sunday play, another of Auckland’s hobby horses, is not on the agenda but the matter might be raised, especially as one, possibly two matches, will include Sunday play this season. Three matters, apparently emanating from the umpires’ association, are placed late on the agenda. These are the noball rule, behaviour of players, and damage to the pitch. The question of players’ behaviour has loomed fairly large in the last two seasons, but this item will probably be discussed in committee.
