Rich Given Warning

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copt/right) GENEVA, July 9. The United Nations Secre-tary-General, U Thant, has warned that if rich nations failed to help developing countries it was an invitation to violence from the poor. He told the opening session of the United Nations Economic and Social Council meeting in Geneva until August 2: “The poor are increasingly aware of the gap that separates them from the rich.” They were increasingly impatient at the denial of adequate help to bridge this gap, U Thant said.

He laid the biggest share of the blame on the industrial nations, but took developing countries to task as well, for lack of far-sightedness in their attitudes towards developed countries.
