Gold Mint At Best

“The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH.

Gold Mint was the best of the Foxton trialists at Awapunl yesterday morning. He looked more impressive in his Foxton Cup trial than Laramie, which failed to put his usual dash into his gallop with High News. The rider of Laramie, L. K. Tinsley, was pushing the chestnut hard over the final stages and although he finished Just in front it was not one of his best gallops. On the course proper, 75ft out, Gold Mint was working much better than Synthetic at the end of seven furlongs In lmin 35sec, the last three furlongs in 41sec. Gold Mint took no harm from his southern trip and he looks very bright. Synthetic won several races on the trip but was not too impressive in his trial.

Flipper was doing well along* side Stormy King at the end of half a mile in 54}sec, the last three furlongs in 42sec. Laramie was just ahead of High News ending a mile in lmin 52sec, the last three furlongs in 41jsec. Laramie usually pulls hard in his work, but he did not yesterday. Good Trial "The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN. Watallan, ridden by his trainer, B. J. Anderton, was the most impressive trialist at Wingatui yesterday when gallops were held under ideal conditions. The plough was in excellent order and the inside grass with the trestles 36 feet out was soft. Watallan was in top form to run three lengths clear of Big Dipper (J. R. Dowling) at the end of five furlongs on the plough in lmin ssec, the first two furlongs in 25sec. Over the same ground Opstan (R. N. Marsh) appeared to be galloping well alongside Bank Again <P. J. Silver) and Red Bard (E. J. Didham) in lmin 6sec, the first two furlongs in 26sec.
