Easter Winners Fit Rivals For Tuesday

Millie Small and Krazikid, both winners at Riccarton at Easter, showed they will be fit rivals for the Canterbury Jockey Club’s May Handicap next Tuesday with good gallops on their home track yesterday.

Although she dwadled over the opening furlong, Millie Small (D. Tucker) recorded Imin 48 2-ssec for her mile. She was joined after a furlong by the stablemates Kiowa (F. H. Skelton) and Listening Post (Mrs V. Clutterbuck).

Listening Post dropped out into a gap of three lengths in the straight, but Kiowa went through with his z run promisingly and beat Millie Small by a neck. They ran the seven furlongs in lmin 31 2-ssec, and the final four in 52 3-ssec.

Trialists had good footing on the trial grass, but an easterly wind affected performances in the home straight. Krazikid (E. G. Low) led Takatua (R. B. Taggart) by four lengths after running a mile in lmin 45 2-ssec, the last half in 52sec. Low will ride Krazikid on Tuesday. This was also a successful combination over the same distance in the Dominion Handicap at Riccarton at Easter. FAST THREE The stablemates, Cosmetic (R. Moir) and Displease (R. J. McCann) dashed over seven furlongs in lmin 29 With an assisting breeze they hurried over the opening three in 36sec. Cosmetic is a light-weight in the May Handicap at Riccarton next week.

The Amberley Cup winner, Royal Blue (A. Lammas) sprinted six furlongs, the last three in 39 l-ssec. Talic (F. H. Skelton) joined in for the last five furlongs and finished half a length behind. The stablemates, David William (J. Kerkvliet) and Conway Stewart (G. Gullery) were on terms, a length ahead of Hemdale Lad (E. G. Low), finishing seven fur-

longs in lmin 29 l-ssec, the last half-mile in 52 l-ssec.

Sun Bank (D. Sanderson) sprinted in from the six furlongs in lmin 19 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 52 3-ssec. The North Island horseman, J. A. Messent, will ride him in the May Handicap. Sleeky Fox (G. Gullery) sprinted half a mile in 51 3-5 sec. Brookfields Pride (R. K. Moir) took 53 3-ssec. SHOWED SPEED

Go Go and Narcotic, both runners for G. H. Murfitt’s stable in the Lewis Pass Handicap next Tuesday, showed

speed in a five-furlong trial from the starting gate. They were the first two home in their trial, just ahead of Headwyn. Go Go, which ran greenly in his race debut at Amberley, will be W. D. Skelton’s mount in the Lewis Pass Handicap next Tuesday. The stablemates, Early Dawn and Lord Macquario, were first and third respectively, in the first of the barrier trials. They were separated by Allegretto, whose next start will be in the Westport Handicap next Tuesday.
