BURWOOD RD SEWER
Board Policy Queried
As the Christchurch Drainage Board would lay a sewer to serve Burwood Hospital, and, by agreement, 12 adjacent properties, it seemed reasonable at the same time to put in a small branch sewer to connect 10 or 12 houses immediately north of the sewer line in Burwood Road, said the chairman (Mr D. B. Rich), at a Waimairi County Council meeting last evening. Mr Rich said that the board had refused to do this. Its policy was not to extend the sewer beyond the urban fence, but in this case, the sewer was being paid for by the North Canterbury Hospital Board. He said that the economics of supplying the 10 or 12 houses excluded from the scheme should be examined in the light of doing the work now, or later, when the urban fence was extended. “The residents have asked me to ask the board if they can put up the money for the extension, and the board repay them at a later date. I have taken this up with the board, but the cost probably would be prohibitive,” said Mr Rich. He said that the residents were already having trouble with their septic tanks.
