ZIPPERS

Zippers.—The Simplicity book has an excellent chapter on how to put in zippers. It states that zippers are easy to put in—and proceeds to take you through every type of zipper application. With a bit of practice, following the methods shown, they can be put in without basting—even without pins! Though most zippers are put in by machine, in many model garments zips are put in by hand. Small back stitches, evenly placed and close together, are used. The hand sewn application is done on the outside and is often preferred for knitted fabrics, pile fabrics and sheers such as chiffon.
