Move To Save Isis Temple

(N.Z.PA.-Reuter—Copyright) PARIS, May 15. An international effort will be made to save a complex of ancient Egyptian temples and monuments from the rising waters on the Aswan Dam. The United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation has agreed to back a £5,125,000 project to dismantle the massive temple of Isis and other monuments on Philae Island—known as "The Pearl of Egypt”—and reassemble them on the nearby Agilkia Island. Egypt will provide one-third of the cost and the remainder will be raised internationally through U.N.E.S.C.O. The temples and monuments at Philae date back to between the fourth century B.C. and the first century A.D.
