University Elections

Four candidates will contest the election of two representatives of the Court of Convocation (graduates) on the Canterbury University Council on June 10. They are:—

Mr D. W. Bain, a council member since 1947, a former cbairman and chancellor, and a member of its finance, student liaison, gymnasium, and centennial planning committees.

Mr J. N. Matson, a council member since 1960 and chairman of its academic, student health and counselling, and student union committees, who is a former Rhodes scholar. Mrs Muriel Morrison, a former board member of the Friends School in Wanganui and of the Avonside Girls’ High School, a member of the university chaplaincy committee for eight years until 1967, and a well-known member of National Council of Churches committees. Mr A. J. Simpson, a postgraduate and part-time tutor in political science, an executive member of various student societies, and of the students’ international affairs committee. There will also be an election for one representative of secondary school boards. Professor George Jobberns, the sitting member and chairman of the Avonside Girls’ High School board, will be opposed by Mr C. F. S. Caldwell, headmaster of the Christchurch Boys’ High School.
