FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. —An intense anticyclone is moving slowly eastwards off the North Island. An active frontal zone is advancing slowly across the Tasman Sea. - Forecast:

Canterbury.—Fresh to strong northwesterly winds predominating; cloudy with rain developing in the Alps; warm. Marlborough (except the Sounds) and Nelson.—Fresh north-westerly winds; some rain in the western ranges later in the day but the weather otherwise fine; mild. Marlborough Sounds.—Fresh to strong north-westerly winds; rather cloudy at times; mild. Buller and Westland. —Moderate or fresh northerly winds; overcast with rain in Westland spreading into Buller during the day; mild. Outlook.—All districts: Some rain. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
