Curly Styles Popular
During the last two or three years hair fashions throughout the world, including in New Zealand, have shown a dramatic change from the smooth longer look to softer more simple curly styles.
These curls, which are reminiscent of the 1930 s Bonnie and Clyde look, are lighter to wear and give a
woman a more casual appearance. .
Most curls vary in length from about 3in to sin and can be worn either loosely in a soft body wave or in exaggerated coils tightly held. At present this style is being worn mostly by younger persons, but the softer style can be equally as flattering to the more mature woman.
Mr Bryon Jones, a leading Christchurch hairdresser and the past president of the Canterbury, Westland, Nelson and Marlborough Hairdressers* Association, said
that the short, clipped boyish styles popular last summer were still being worn, mainly by younger girls. They had retained the shaped sides and the tapering back, but there was more growth on the crown.
With the ball season beginning, the long romantic look, including, particularly, ringlets, was in demand for evening wear.
This effect could be achieved by careful styling of the wearer’s own hair or by the use of wiglets and switches, he said.
