OBITUARY Mrs J. McNaughton

Mrs Jessie McNaughton, who was a midwife iin Christchurch for many years and was well known for her social work, died recently, aged 89. Mrs McNaughton was born on May 28, 1878, at Wonford in Devon, England. She trained as a midwife at the London East End Mothers’ Lying-in Home in 1906 and came to New Zealand the next year. Mrs McNaughton settled in Christchurch and, for more than 25 years, worked at Hornby and other districts as a domiciliary midwife. She worked in conjunction with Christchurch doctors. A member and willing worker for many organisations, including the New Zealand Registered Nurses (Canterbury branch), Friends of Nurse Maude, Friends of Templeton Hospital, Orange Lodge, and the National Council of Women, Mrs McNaughton always had a keen Interest in all aspects of soda) work.
