NOTHING SAVED

Fire Guts House A Christchurch family lost its home and almost all of its possessions when fire gutted a wooden house at 74 Bowenvale Avenue, Heathcote, in the early hours of Saturday. The house was occupied by Mr and Mrs E. Cescorn, and their four children, the eldest only five. They were absent when the fire broke out A neighbour, Mrs D. Simcock, said she was awakened by a crackling sound. She looked out the window and saw the interior of the house was a mass of flames. Her husband, Mr R. Simcock, telephoned the fire brigade and then ran to the burning house to arouse anyone who might be inside.

Units from the Central and Sydenham stations answered a call received at 1.48 a.m. The blaze had a good hold when the firemen arrived. Nothing was saved. Firemen were at the scene for more than two hours.
