Art Offer Rejected
An offer by the Canterbury Society of Arts to rent 20 paintings from its collection to the Waiwera County Council so country people eould see them was rejected by the council on Friday at its meeting in Little River. The society offered to rent the paintings for $5O for four weeks and the council would have had to meet the freight costs and hang them somewhere where the paintings could be viewed. Councillor T. D. Barwick said that there was nowhere to hang the paintings properly and suggested that the council receive the letter from the society and forget all about it.
Cr J. N. Buckland said that the people could go to the art gallery in Christchurch if they wanted to see the paintings The cost could never be recovered and the demand would not be there, he said.

B. O'Brien) were also re-elected. The vicepresidents elected were Mr J. Grey (Otaki), Mr F. Morgan (Wellington), Mr R. Chiles (Dunedin) and Mrs A. Knox (Bay of Plenty).
