CARPENTERS’ DISPUTE
Strike Pay Collection (N.Z. Frsit Annotation)
AUCKLAND, May 9. Collections were taken on building sites throughout Auckland today towards strike pay for the 10 carpenters who stopped work last Friday.
The men, who were working on a new wing at Mangere Hospital, went on strike after claiming that a union delegate should not have been dismissed. , Mr P. Purdue, the acting secretary of the Auckland Carpenters* Union, said tonight that support from other trades had been very good. Mr G. F. Knowles, manager of the Auckland Master Builders* Association, repeated today that the association was not prepared to discus the situation unless the men returned to work.
