SALMON BAG
Lower Limit Sought
An application will be made to the Marine Department by the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society to have the limit bag of salmon reduced to three.. This was decided at a meeting of the society’s council this week.
The South Island Cound) of Acclimatisation Societies adopted this figure at its annual meeting on the recommendations of the South Island Salmon Committee but each society has to make formal application to the department. Another application to the Marine Department will ask that only one lure be attached to a line used In salmon waters when a weight is also attached.
A simplified publication of fresh-water fishing regulations will be prepared for the society and will probably be available next season. The society’s game committee has requested the Marine Department to prohibit eel fishing in Lake Ellesmere during the five weeks of the duck-shooting season. A motion that the society seek to have power beets prohibited from the foreshore of the lake during the duck shooting season was defeated.
