Ceramic To Be Cargo Vessel
The Shaw Savill liner Ceramic, which is due at Cashin Quay this week-end to discharge United Kingdom cargo.
is making her last voyage as a passenger ship. The 15,896-ton, twin-screw turbine steamer will be converted into a cargo ship when she returns to Britain. Her sisters, the Atbenic, the Corinthic, and the Gothic, have already been converted. Each of the quartet carried about 80 passengers, and had enormous refrigerated cargo capacity. The Ceramic, which is Commanded by Captain N. S. Milne, Is 20 years old. The disappearance of her passenger accommodation will mark the end of an era for the Shaw Savill Line, whose passengers will henceforth be catered for by the Southern Cross, the Northern Star and the Akaroa.
