ESCORT AIRBORNE.—A Ford Escort undergoing tests on a tank proving-ground in Britain. The British rally driver, Roger Clark, took the car round the Army course to test its suspension and sump-guard for European-style rallies. It was later reported that the engine finally stopped when, in spite of the sump guard, the sump was pushed in so far that the crankshaft could not longer turn.
