RESEARCHON AWARDS

Appointment By F.O.L. (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 2. The Federation of Labour had appointed an award research officer in its national office to assist unions in disputes with employers, the president (Mr T. E. Skinner) said at the annual conference of the federation today. The appointment had been made to provide unions with the latest facts and figures in the many and varied award agreements, and their changing pay rates and conditions, he said. In some cases unions made agreements with employers in ignorance of gains, made in similar awards, to which they were entitled, said Mr Skinner. There was a vital need in the movement to provide facts to rebut the arguments of the highly paid, highly trained employers’ advocates.
