Conferences Outside Tourist Season Urged

(New Zealand Press Association) ROTORUA, May 2. An organisation as large at the Municipal Association should not compete against tourists for accommodation, Mr P. D. Cox, of Napier, said at the association’s conference today.

He was speaking during discussion on a remit from Dannevirke, which recommended that future conferences be held late in February or early in March. Mr Cox said the conference

should be held in the offseason.

The remit also suggested that conferences be planned two years in advance, to ease accommodation problems. It was lost.

Another remit, introduced by the Christchurch delegates, recommended that future conferences be held biennially Instead of yearly. It drew little support. The Mayor of Christchurch (Sir George Manning) said the remit had been brought forward in the interests of economy, and to prevent unnecessary conflict with the tourist industry. A similar remit was lost last year. Next year’s conference will be held in Christchurch from April 13 to April 19.
