Salvationist Festival

About 100 young people from nine Salvation Army singing companies in Christchurch, Timaru and Ashburton will take part in a junior choirs festival at the Salvation Army Citadel, Victoria Square, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 11. The festival will be the first of its kind to be held for several years. The divisional youth officer for the Canterbury and Westland division (Captain P. L. Smith) said yesterday that all persons in the choirs would be under 16 years old. Although all items would be of a religious flavour, modem songs would be included. Each group would provide its own accompaniment, but four massed items would be presented. Conducted by Mr T. Matheson, of Christchurch.
