TROTTING Stylos Picked In Stakes Tomorrow
Stylos, a good second to Inky Boy over two miles on Easter Saturday, will be a popular fancy to win the Somme Stakes, the first leg of the on-course concession double at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington Raceway tomorrow.
Stylos, a four-year-old mare by Johnny Globe from Romanos, has been a model of consistency this season. Her last six starts have resulted in a win and four placings, a record which should be improved tomorrow.
Possibly the most difficult for Stylos to beat will be Cathpete, which has drawn badly at No. 14.
Cathpete is usually slow away and it will not be unusual for him to have to make ground from a good way back. He raced most unluckily at the Easter meeting and is due to have a change of fortune.
Young Prince, too, has raced well lately. His last five starts have resulted in two wins and three second placings. He looked very well when worked at Addington yesterday morning and should make another bold showing. Udette, Wipe Out, Toff Scott and Dieman Lad are others expected to add interest to the finish.
John Peel, which has not raced since he gained an easy sprint win at the Cheviot meeting last month, was another to attract attention at Addington Raceway yesterday. He looks in great heart and should be hard to beat In the Passchendaele Stakes. He has drawn No. 1 at the barrier and could easily lead from end to end First Pick and Late Frost have been unlucky in their latest racing. Both are due to gain overdue wins and they could offer strong opposition to John Peel. Battle Star and Benmore were last-start winners on the Central Otago Easter Circuit. Both have done well in the meantime and they are entitled to consideration, as are Alandria, Braeburn, Dacron and Patriarch’s Son. The T.A.B. double will be run on the Army Handicap and the Air Force Stakes, the Stylish-Major-Le Chant bracket and Kimberly Kid forming a likely combination. Further unsettled weather is forecast, but unless there is heavy rain within four hours of the start of the meeting, the track should be in good I order.
Brackets: Oscar and Carsonelii,. Chichester and AH Alone. RRST LEG OF OH-COURSE DOUBLE
Brackets: Johnny Gee and Tony Bear, Stylish Major and Le Chant.
Bracket: Cadane and Charlie Chan. SECOND LEG OF T.A.B. DOUBLE
