(NZ. Press Association) ROTORUA, April 23. Allegations that New Zealand newspaper proprietors were siding with Government policy to help their own interests were described by the president of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association (Mr H. N. Blundell) today as without foundation, and quite untrue. Mr R. Bailey, M.P. for Heretaunga, told the Turangi branch of the New Zealand Workers’ Union last night that since March this year 40,000 persons had been paid unemployment benefits and that tens of thousands were expected to lose work and take up unemployment benefits. By not reporting these facts, he said, the newspapers were helping the Government to “cloud the minds of the people.” Mr Bailey said that the idea behind this omission was to gain support from the Government for a private broadcasting or television station.
