ADDINGTON MARKET Values Easier For Most Store Calves

Store calf values were generally easier at Addington market yesterday. There was a larger yarding than last sale, but the buying gallery was smaller.

A feature of the entry was the good representation of Herefords, and on the day, these sold very well. While most of the other good and medium-grade calves were easier, there still remained a very steady inquiry for the small tail-end lots.

Store lambs again made up ♦he bulk of the store sheep jarding. There was again a good selection of shorn Romneys, but the buying-power was weaker, and all classes of wether lambs were easier. The store sheep yarding was 7610. compared with 11,430 last sale. It consisted of 1745 ewe lambs. 5510 wether lambs, 185 two-tooth ewes and 170 older ewes. The store cattle yarding rose from 1860 last week to 2535, and consisted of 2160 calves, and 375 adult cattle. Store Lambs Store lambs met a harder tale. With Addington market coinciding with the weekly store sheep at Tinwald. there was not such a large buying gallery, and the sale lost a lot of the strength it had two weeks ago. Following recent wintry weather, buyers were more cautious throughout, and carryover lambs in particular, showed a marked decline. Even the shorn lines of Romney wether lambs, which have been in short supply this year, were easier.

At 7000 head the store lamb yarding was quite a large one. For the third week in succession it included a good selection of shorn Romney wether lambs. These again met the best inquiry of the wether lamb section but values were 20c to 30'’ easier.

The best of the shorn Romneys sold to $5.50 with medium f*-om $4.40 to $4.80, and lighter | from $3.70 to $4.10.

Corriedale and halfbred wether lambs met a harder sale than the shorn Romneys, with values for the light to medium lambs easing 40c to 50c. The yarding included two large lines of high country halfbreds. and these sold well on the day.

The best of the finewoolled wether lambs sold from $4.25 to $4.60. with odd sales to $5.20: medium sold from $3.60 to $4.10: and lighter and $2.75 to $3.40.

Apart from some of the top pens, ewe lambs were also easier. The entry included some pens of well-grown, and wellwnniied halfbred and Corriedales. There were only four pens of adult ewes, and they were very plain. Some Merinos and Romneys were passed, while t’vo lots of Corriedales sold at $3.30 to $4.35. Three pens of Romney twotooths met a gond sale, with values ranging from $6.15 to $6.20. while a small lot of Corriedales realised $5.35. Store Calves Store calves were generally easier. The yarding was a big one. but there was a smaller gallery of buyers this week, and from the outset values showed an easing of $3 to $4 a head. There were not so many pens of even calves this week, and some of the calves on offer

were showing the effect of recent adverse weather. A feature of the sale was the sizeable entry of Hereford calves. On the day, these met a good sale.
