Test Blast Protest

(N.Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON, April 23. Housewives and civic leaders have joined a group of scientists in a growing chorus of protest over a huge United States nuclear test blast scheduled for Friday in Nevada. The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom said it was “horrified” at the Atomic Energy Commission’s plans for the underground explosion, which will equal a force of “from one to several megatons.” A megaton is equivalent to a million tons of T.N.T. The scientists have warned the authorities of “serious” seismic damage, the release of large amounts of cancer-caus-ing radioactive iodine, and a very small possibility that the new test could trigger an earthquake.
