Election Tonight
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. A close election is likely tonight for the appointment of manager of the New Zealand team for this year’s Olympic Games in Mexico City. Three nominations have been made, and the post will be filled at the meeting of the New Zealand Olympic and British Commonwealth Games Association. Those nominated are Messrs R Shakespeare, a Hastings accountant, R. Prince, a Wanganui accountant, and L. Hosking, a retired oil company executive from Wellington.
Mr Prince has been nominated by the Amateur Athletic Association and the Amateur Cycling Association.
Mr Hosking represents the Amateur Rowing Association on the Games association’s executive.
Mr Shakespeare was manager of the New Zealand Commonwealth Games team at Jamaica in 1966.
Irish Soccer.—Shamrock Rovers won the Irish Soccer Cup for the fifth year in succession when they beat the new League of Ireland champion, Waterford, by three goals to nil. Trials Players.—The King Country Rugby Union has nominated six players for the All Black trials. They are C. E. Meads, G. Pohlen, W. Symonds (locks), R. Flintoff (back row), T. Spry (hooker) and I. Ingham (first five-eighths). N.Z. Loses.—ltaly beat New Zealand 14-5 in a roller-hockey exhibition game at Lodi, in Italy, yesterday.
