SINGAPORE, April 10.
Foreign - instigated conflict in Laos had almost completely dislocated the country’s economy, the Laotian Planning and Co-operation Minister, Mr Inpeng Suryadhay, said yesterday. He gave a dismal account of his country’s economic plighr to the opening session of the Ministerial Conference for Economic Development of South-East Asia.
Mr Suryadhay said it would take 30 years of intense effort to right the Laotian economy. But he added that his country was confident of faster progress with the help of friendly nations. The Minister did not name the “foreign aggressor” responsible for the economic problems. However, the Laotian Prime Minister, Prince Souvannah Phouma, repeatedly has said North Vietnamese troops are fighting with pro-Communist Pathei Lao forces.
