"The Press** Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Serena was much improved in training at Awapuni yesterday morning when she matched Star Belle at every stage of their gallop on the plough in preparation for the Awapuni Gold Cup. They finished together and recorded a brilliant time. On the plough, Serena started from the five and joined Star Belle at the half-mile. They raced together all the way and took 49sec, the last three in 36|sec. Serena was timed from the five in Imin 2sec. Sail Away partnered Gayemana over seven furlongs in Imin 34 4-ssec, the last three in 40 l-ssec. Gymkhana dashed over five furlongs in Imin 2 4-ssec, the last three in 38 l-ssec. He worked impressively and has a good chance in the Manawatu Mile. On the course proper, Palamos and Right Royal excelled when they ran ha’.f a mile In 49 4-ssec, there being little between them over the last three in 36 4-ssec. Springlo completed a smart three furlongs with plenty In hand in 37 3-ssec. This was a fine effort and he is going to be hard to beat in the Mana* watu Mile.
