THE WILD HORSES of Sydney’s Taronga Park Zoo have had their hooves clipped. This photograph shows a veterinarian firing anaesthetic darts at the horses to quieten them before treatment by members of the staff of Sydney University’s veterinary science school. The horses are not shod, and constant walking on the concrete floors of their enclosures makes their hooves misshapen unless regularly trimmed. “It’s all quite painless,” said the science school’s head, Dr L. H. Larsen.
