Pacers Boost Dollar Income

New Zealand's overseas earnings will increase by an estimated $250,000 as a result of the departure this evening from Christchurch of 17 pacers which are to race in the United States and Canada.

This figure was given yesterday by a spokesman for Wright, Stephenson and Company, Ltd, who are organising the transport of the horses.

The horses will travel in a CL44 aircraft chartered by Yonkers Raceway, New York. The aircraft is due to arrive at Christchurch Airport at about 2 p.m. today from Sydney, where it will pick up six horses, including last month’s Inter-Dominion Championship Grand Final winner. First Lee, which is to contest an international pacing series at Yonkers Raceway in April. | The other horses to travel i from Sydney are Extra Good, Pride of Hanover, Free Brigade, Balladeer, and Geronimo.

Extra Good (Goodland — Grattanello), Balladeer (Flying Song—Deveron) and Geronimo (Newport Chief—J<yfree) are all New Zealandbred.

The pacers sold or lensed to the United States and Canada and those whidi are to race in the interests of New Zealand owners /re Enniss. Brilliant Ross Julie Hanover, Vista Abl/y, KeraI vat, Glenafton, Bio Again,

Lofty, Overtime, Town Martial, Winslow Lady, Montage, Fielder, Rocky Star, Cardinal King, Space Cadet and Eyreton.

The final space will be taken by the thoroughbred, Pacific Cross.

The seven attendants will include the Sydney veterinary surgeon, Dr P. E. Wood, and I. L. Schwamm, fi. Harrow, C. F. Middleton. and R. .1. Townley, who will join the aircraft at Christchurch.
