Dobson Mine

Sir, —“Lost Memory” seems to have his wishbone where his backbone should be. if he envies the pay packet of the miners. This hornet’s nest was stirred up over the transfer of miners, with scant consideration of the unnecessary inconvenience it would cause. I have a near relative who, by transfer, would have nearly 60 miles a day to travel. He works on permanent night shift and must sleep a good part of the day. At the time of the Strongman disaster I saw a shattering grief I never want to see again. By long distances these men would not be rested sufficiently for their work. The Dobson mine is one of the hottest in New Zealand, to add to the discomfort. The miners were quite right to ask for Mr Shand’s removal. They know

who their friends are, and it is not Mr Shand and his band.—Yours, etc.. PALE-FACE BROTHER. March 12, 1968.
